Breath - Air

In ancient wisdom—particularly Ayurveda and Yogic philosophy—the body is made up of the Pancha Mahabhutas, or five elements:
Earth (Prithvi), Water (Apas), Fire (Agni), Air (Vayu), and Ether (Akasha).

Among these, Air (Vayu) represents movement, breath, and life-force (Prana).
Pranayama—the conscious control of breath—is directly connected to this element, because:

  • Air is the carrier of Prana, the vital energy that sustains life.

  • Breath is the subtlest and most accessible form of energy movement in the body.

  • In yogic texts, it's said that when the breath is balanced, the mind becomes still.

Join us for 4-7-8 Breath Practice

The 4-7-8 breathing technique is a powerful relaxation practice with several benefits for both the body and mind:

  • Reduces Anxiety and Stress – Slowing the breath calms the nervous system, lowers cortisol levels, and brings immediate relaxation.

  • Improves Sleep Quality – Practicing before bed helps quiet the mind and ease the body into a restful state.

  • Enhances Focus and Mental Clarity – By increasing oxygen flow and slowing the heart rate, it improves concentration and mindfulness.

  • Lowers Blood Pressure – It activates the parasympathetic nervous system, helping regulate heart rate and reduce hypertension.

  • Helps Control Emotional Reactivity – It creates a pause between stimulus and response, aiding in better emotional regulation.

  • Practicing 4-7-8 breathing regularly—even for just a few minutes—can lead to long-term improvements in resilience and overall well-being.
